What are the opening hours during which I can access the the National Archives?

Regulations and facilities

The National Archives of Zimbabwe will be closed during the following public holidays:

New Year's Day January 1
Good Friday  
Easter Monday  
Workers day
May 1
Heroes Day
August 12
Defence forces day
August 13
Christmas December 25
Boxing Day December 26

*The national Archives is closed on Sundays and Saturdays

*We are also closed during the whole month of March for stock take

* During Lunch the reading room is open but it is unstaffed: 13:00  to 14:00 pm

How much do I pay to access the acrhives collections?

*All currencies are in United States dollars US$

access fee=One dollar per day

photocopying=one dollar per five pages

individual tours= two dollars

group tours =ten dollars per group of twenty (school children)/twenty dollars for other groups

 

Do I need to make an appointment or can I just come by?

    • Our on-site services are available to all eligable users.

 

Where can I park?

We have a clients car park.

What can I bring with me into reading room while conducting research at the National Archives of Zimbabwe?

You are allowed to bring:

  • Researchers intending to use the reading room should produce a Positive identification (ID, Passport or Drivers licence), research notes, lead pencils, a laptop, a tape recorder.  You may only bring those items required for your research; However all bags and all other items not used during the research are not allowed in the reading room and must be left at the reception.
  • Foreign reserchers should bring a valid research permit obtained from the research council of Zimbabwe.

Where can I find something to eat?

In the CBD, approximately five kilometres away.

Is Internet access available at National Archives of Zimbabwe?

Limited computers located at the reading room area of National Archives of Zimbabwe are connected to the Internet; their use is restricted to research purposes. WiFi internet access is also available.

What if I'm unable to come to the National Archives of Zimbabwe in person?

Am I allowed to bring books or documents home with me?

No. All National Archives of Zimbabwe documents have to be consulted on-site.
